WebBirthmark Mole. If you or your child was born with a mole, it is considered a birthmark. The medical term for it is “congenital nevus.” This type of mole is permanent. Congenital nevi occur in about 1% of the population. Moles are typically small, round spots – about the size of a pencil eraser or smaller – although some may be larger.
